Volume & Tiered Pricing

Reward bulk purchases with quantity-based discount tiers and mix methods.

What Is Volume Pricing?

Volume pricing (also called tiered pricing or quantity-based pricing) rewards your wholesale customers with bigger discounts when they buy more. The more they order, the better their per-unit price gets. It's one of the most effective ways to encourage larger B2B orders.

For example, you might set up tiers like this:

  • Buy 1–9 units → 5% off each
  • Buy 10–49 units → 10% off each
  • Buy 50+ units → 15% off each

This motivates buyers to increase their order quantities to reach the next pricing tier.

Note: Volume pricing is not available on the Free plan. You need at least a Growth plan to create volume pricing rules.

Creating a Volume Pricing Rule

Here's how to set up volume pricing step by step:

  1. Navigate to 'Product Pricing' page, Click Volume Pricing.
  2. Click Create Rule.
  3. Enter a Rule Name (e.g., "Bulk T-Shirt Discount" or "Volume Tier – All Products").
  4. Select a Mix Method (explained in detail below).
  5. Choose the Discount Type for your tiers — either Percentage or Fixed Amount per unit.
  6. Build your Quantity Tiers (see next section).
  7. Configure Customer Targeting — which customer groups qualify.
  8. Configure Product Targeting — which products this rule applies to.
  9. Optionally set start and end dates for scheduling.
  10. Click Save.

Building Quantity Tiers

The tier builder lets you define your quantity ranges and the discount for each range. Here's how to set it up:

  1. In the Tiers section of the rule form, click Add Tier.
  2. Enter the minimum quantity for this tier (e.g., 1).
  3. Enter the maximum quantity (e.g., 9). Leave the max empty for the highest tier to mean "and above."
  4. Enter the discount value for this tier (e.g., 5 for 5% off, or $2.00 for $2 off per unit).
  5. Click Add Tier again to add the next range.
  6. Repeat until all your tiers are defined.

Discount Types for Tiers

  • Percentage — Each tier takes a percentage off the unit price (e.g., 5%, 10%, 15%)
  • Fixed Amount per Unit — Each tier deducts a fixed dollar amount from the unit price (e.g., $1 off, $3 off, $5 off)

Mix Methods Explained

The Mix Method determines how BulklyCart counts the quantity in the buyer's cart to figure out which tier they qualify for. This is one of the most important settings for volume pricing, so let's walk through each option with clear examples.

Same Variant

Only identical variants count together. Different variants of the same product are counted separately.

Example: Your buyer adds 5 Red T-Shirts and 5 Blue T-Shirts to their cart.

  • Red T-Shirt count: 5 → Qualifies for Tier 1 (1–9 units)
  • Blue T-Shirt count: 5 → Qualifies for Tier 1 (1–9 units)

Each color is evaluated independently. Even though the buyer ordered 10 shirts total, neither variant alone reaches the 10+ tier.

Mix Variants

All variants of the same product are combined into one total quantity.

Example: Your buyer adds 5 Red T-Shirts and 5 Blue T-Shirts to their cart.

  • Total T-Shirt count (all variants): 10 → Qualifies for Tier 2 (10–49 units)!

Both colors are variants of the same "T-Shirt" product, so their quantities are added together. The buyer gets the 10% discount on all 10 shirts.

Mix Products

All products that share the same volume pricing rule have their quantities combined.

Example: You create one volume rule that applies to both T-Shirts and Pants. Your buyer adds 5 T-Shirts and 5 Pants.

  • Total count across all products in the rule: 10 → Qualifies for Tier 2 (10–49 units)!

All products covered by the rule are pooled together. This is great for encouraging buyers to purchase across your product range to hit higher discount tiers.

How Volume Pricing Appears in the Portal

Your wholesale customers see volume pricing throughout the portal in several ways:

1. Volume Pricing Badge on Catalog Cards

In the product catalog grid, products with active volume pricing rules display a "Volume Pricing" badge on their product card. This immediately tells buyers that bulk discounts are available.

2. Volume Pricing Modal on Product Detail

When a buyer clicks on a product that has volume pricing, they'll see a "Volume Pricing Info" link. Clicking this opens a modal that displays a full pricing table showing:

  • Quantity ranges for each tier
  • Price per unit at each tier
  • Savings compared to the standard wholesale price

The modal updates dynamically when the buyer selects a different variant (if variant-specific tiers exist). If a specific variant doesn't have its own tiers, the modal falls back to showing the product-level tiers.

3. Volume Pricing Banner on Quick Order Page

The Quick Order page can display a prominent volume discount banner at the top, reminding buyers that quantity discounts are available. This banner can be customized in your Portal Styling settings.

4. Tier Previews in the Cart Drawer

When a buyer adds items to their cart, the cart drawer shows volume tier savings previews for each line item. Buyers can see exactly how much they're saving and how many more items they'd need to add to reach the next tier.

Date Range Scheduling

Just like wholesale pricing rules, you can schedule volume pricing rules with start and end dates. This is useful for:

  • Seasonal bulk-buy promotions
  • Limited-time "stock up" events
  • End-of-season clearance with increasing quantity discounts

Volume Table Styling

The visual appearance of volume pricing tables (in the product detail modal and other locations) is controlled through your Portal Styling settings. You can customize colors, fonts, borders, and spacing to match your brand. Changes to the styling apply globally across all volume pricing displays.

Plan Limits

The number of active volume pricing rules depends on your plan:

  • Free: 0 (volume pricing not available)
  • Growth: Up to 5 rules
  • Pro: Up to 15 rules
  • Business: Unlimited rules
